World Mental Health Day 2023
I have been recovering from burnout. That dark place has not been comfortable to live in. The feeling of exhaustion that no amount of sleep can make better. The feeling of disconnection. The lack of joy. It’s hard to describe but once I experienced it, I could understand why the mental health campaigns that say ‘Reach out if you do not feel good’ do not always resonate.
You feel trapped in that darkness. It is not easy to reach out. Your communication skills are almost impaired. It takes every ounce of courage to keep going. With a smile and a ‘I’m good thanks’ we can fool everyone so easily.
There is a whole healing journey that awaits from this point. There is an opportunity for transformation. You can choose a victim mindset and keep questioning “why is this happening to me?” Or you can go with the growth mindset and ask “What is this trying to teach me?”
That ‘not-well’ phase taught me so much. I never thought I would be feeling grateful for it. It taught me resilience, learning to be good to myself, learning to set boundaries, learning to rest and recharge, getting to know myself deeply and turning my pain into my purpose.
We can go for big measures, big projects, big talks. However, we need not forget the little actions, little words of comfort, little acts of support. A pat on the back with a genuine ‘Hope you will be ok.” is such good medicine for our souls.
We do not always need long speeches on mental health. Sometimes we may want connection and genuine caring.
To all those who are struggling, you are not alone. Those moments make us human. You are not weak. You are transforming!
Take care of yourself.
Seek guidance inwards.
Seek the help.
There is light that awaits. 🌻
